History
Worked for IPC magazines in Fleet street London for many years as a graphic designer (apprentice)
Attended Camberwell school of art (day release) studying drawing and one evening per week studying graphic design.
After a year I changed direction and went to the West country on a farming scheme but returned to pick up where I
left off with IPC but did not go back to art school. So basically I was 'self trained' without formal qualifications.
In 1976 I came north and bought a small holding in Barlby, North Yorkshire and continued in graphic design and
eventually went freelance in 1982 in which I continued for the next 17 years. I only seriously started painting with oils
in December 2005.

Inspiration
The moods of nature are so inspiring, that to be able to paint what I see is, a wonderful expression of my emotions.
Since I was a boy, the light, colour and form in nature has always  intrigued me and now as I look around it can so often
leave me breathless with wonder and awe. When I was very young I remember watching a lady with her easel,
painting a landscape and I felt  this strange, powerful fascination pass through me - I have never lost that feeling.
I have spent so long in the woods. From an early age, it seems I have spent a life time watching
the sun rise, walking amongst trees and watching wild life - not only during the day but also the night,
that I have sometimes felt a part of the great celebration.
When most boys my age were on street corners or off to dances, I was lost in a wood somewhere.
